Finally, A Robust Application Upgrade

Reversing statements I made early in the process, it appears that the Version 2010 upgrade to MS Dynamics GP is a robust business application upgrade.  It contains dozens of business process enhancements that will provide users real options and new functionality.

Upgrades to the PO receiving process allows received items to be returned and reinstated on the original PO.  FINALLY!!  Break out the fireworks on this one!  Of course, the returns process is still bulky and requires some significant insight into it's workings, but this is a GREAT start.

Changes to lookups provide the long desired ability to set your own default.  Users can configure a lookup to show only desired records such as customers assigned to them and set that search as the default for them.

Some enhancements are of questionable value, such as the Home Page link to MS Blogs and the ability to instant messenger clients, vendors, or employees.  Employees I can understand but receiving IMs from your firm's customers can be awkard.

The rolling down of date changes on POs is a feature many customers have wanted for a long time.  And it works!  Printing Back Ordered items on Picking Tickets adds options for firms that process their sales orders in a certain manner, but it is a good option.

Then there are all the Payroll and Field Service enhancements.

For years I have been moaning and groaning that Microsoft has been enhancing the Office Integration of GP and not GP.  Ok, they did a bit more in V2010 but they also made many needed business process enhancements.

I have a lot of work ahead of me, writing our Version 2010 Unleashed book and updating the existing books, but it is refreshing to see that what feared might be a 20-30 page booklet is already over 60 pages and only half finished!
